A New Queen of Swords
Oct. 11th, 2008 08:42 amThis is the third post in a row consisting primarily of material I've hijacked from an LJ friend. . .
In a recent entry,
sharpchick used an icon I'd never seen before: the Queen of Swords from Buckland's Romani Tarot deck. There are so few QoS cards that I actually like, that I had to go find a larger version and nab it.

Love her!

Warrior Queen

Which historical warrior woman are you?

You are Nzingha, the queen of Ndongo in modern-day Angola who waged war against Portuguese slave traders. After her ineffectual brother was killed, Nzingha took power. For the next forty years, she fought the Portuguese. An astute diplomat and skilled at manipulation, Nzingha played the various European colonial powers off each other to achieve her own goals. During a conference with the Portuguese, when she was not offered a chair to sit in, Nzingha famously called one of her attendants over to form a human chair with his back, stunning the Portuguese. When Nzingha died (at age 82, a staggering life span for her time), her sister became queen and carried on Nzingha's fight. Like Nzingha, you are strong-willed and clever - and you'll go to any lengths to get what you believe in!A more detailed overview of Nzingha's life can be found here: http://www.knowyourblackhistory.com/queen-nzingha.html
