Trying To Remember The Usual Routine
Dec. 29th, 2008 06:45 amNo snow tiger today.
The weather seems to have shifted decisively back to more normal patterns -- and equally significantly, the management of my apartment complex finally managed to get a mini bulldozer up here last night and the maintenance guys were finally digging out the parking lots. Even yesterday, my dad's four wheel drive pick-up was struggling to get through the piles of snow and ice in here. I started to suggest that he just drop me off on the main street, but the snowplows have left 2 foot deep drifts to either side that I did not want to wade through.
So today I drive my car for the first time in more than a week. . . and head back to the office.
I think I remember how to get there.
I'm really tempted to stay home and work from my home office one more day, but I have an important meeting scheduled with my boss's boss about the findings from my one of my big projects, and while no one would blame me if I did it via phone conference, it really would be better to do it face to face.
What's nice is that I think that my own boss would be cool about my working from home on a semi-regular basis. I'll have to talk with her about it after my quarterly review.

Aslan on the Move. . . ?
Dec. 27th, 2008 08:05 amShe makes it so it's always winter and never Christmas!
This morning's news showed that downtown is entirely clear of snow. Me, I had to plow through snow up to my knees to get across the street to have dinner last night, and I'll still need to borrow a snow shovel to clear the space in front of my garage to get my car out.
However when I opened my window I heard the sound of water running through drains, even though it isn't raining. Things are starting to thaw!
And my family is having Christmas tomorrow. . . . I hope. . .

Things Are Looking Up
Dec. 26th, 2008 08:39 amI had originally intended to take today off, but I ended up not working at all on Christmas Eve, so I really need to spend several hours listening to calls today. I am way below my quota and my quarterly summary is due soon.
On the other hand, yesterday turned out to be a huge improvement on the week I'd had: I corrected a big mistake in one of my hermetic/spiritual practices, had that really good chat with
_storyteller_, got some pleasant creative work done, the snow is starting to melt -- and it's Wookiee Life Day! (Thanks
alfrecht!)

Shoveling Snow
Dec. 22nd, 2008 11:34 amI'd been thinking that getting some activity might help my mood -- and I got my chance today. My 77 year-old dad, his retired neighbor lady, and the son of their neighbors and I were all out shoveling the shared driveway late this morning. There were only three snow shovels, so we took turns. I shot the photo during one of my breaks.

We were about to go in and take a break when an ambulance pulled up across the street and another neighbor called to see if anyone had snow shovels to come help dig a path to the afflicted person's front door -- so off we went. (Nothing like flashing red lights to get one's adrenaline going!) Fortunately the situation wasn't immediately urgent, but there's a path for the EMT's to get back and forth.
When I came back inside I was shaking from fatigue, but I felt much better overall.
