This evening I started my usual offering to Tiwaz -- and was stopped dead with a hard look and a pointed question about a task I had been given to do.

No, sir, I have not yet written the email to the contact my spiritual director gave me about doing spiritual direction with Pagan soldiers.

And I should be willing to receive your offering why when you have not fulfilled the very simple obligation you willingly took on at my behest?

No reason in the world, my lord.

Do it. Now. I have nothing else to say to you until you do.

Yes, sir. Sorry, sir.

And yes, once I'd written and sent the email he was perfectly happy to accept the drink offering and my thanks for his protection of my daughter, my house, and me.

That complete and unbending will is why many people avoid him. I think you're quite brave, getting involved with him.

I was introduced to Tiwaz by LM, who had served him in many lifetimes. It gave me a different perspective, perhaps. Most people think of him as a warrior god, but LM was deeply in touch with the older lore of Tiwaz as the sky father before Odin came to prominence, one whose warrior might was used in defense of his people and justice.

His "complete and unbending will" is what enabled him to put his hand in the mouth of Fenris, knowing it would get bitten off when the wolf was bound, because it was the only way the wolf's threat to his people could be neutralized, even for a while.

He's not a softy, and he expects you to live up to your duties and obligations, but he is a protector, and he's not without a sense of humor.

My posse is always bugging me to clean the house. Srsly. I think some of them are not talking to me until things reach a minimum of cleanliness and order.

Well, in this case I had made a commitment to him and then put off a simple task for more than three weeks. I think he was entitled to be peeved at me.

There's definitely a sense of mutual obligation in my relationship with Tiwaz, of commitments made and upheld. It's not the same kind of personal bond that I have with Ereshkigal.

No, that emphasis on mutual obligation and resultant strictness makes sense--- it was just interesting to read because, from my perspective (where I don't have a relationship of that kind with any of the Gods or spirits I interact with) it reminded me so much of...other situations.

Well. . . since those "other situations" are also part of my psyche, I have no doubt that it plays a part in my relationship with my gods. Certainly my relationship with Ereshkgial has a strong element of Her being my top.

Wow! I mean it! I have a certain level of contact with a couple of gods, though we communicate very abstractly, and it is not comparable to the contact you have with Tiwaz and Ereshkigal, which makes me wonder whether I will reach that point one day. Your level of commitment is impressive.
Hugs

I experience a range of connection and comprehension. A lot of times it's abstract, and I have to be very careful to limit the degree to which my own perceptions and desires are shaping things. At other times it's very vivid and direct and there's no room for argument or quibbling.
