Today's weight lifting workout was tough. I arrived at the gym tired, and every sequence felt harder than usual.

The last exercise was wall squats with my back against a big ball on the wall. My legs were starting to shake and still I had my last ten reps to do.

Almost grimly I reminded myself that at this point it wasn't about muscle, it was about mind. My legs could do it if my mind and will didn't give out.

And then it was as if LM was in front of me. Look at me, he said. Don't think about your muscles. Just concentrate on me.

And I did. . . And I barely felt my legs moving. I focused on his face, centering all my attention -- heart, mind and soul -- on his image.

Did some of his energy enter me and help me? Perhaps. Or maybe it was enough for me to achieve so much focus that my body simply didn't register anymore. I got through those last ten squats without groaning or wincing.

It was rather amazing.
