It wasn't enough to choose this path in the midst of grief. . . or during the peak experience of initiation. I also had to dig deep into all that I am and all the challenges and opportunities of my life and say This is what is fundamental to me. This is what gives meaning to my existence.

Without this Work, I am empty.

We have a phrase in the Ekklesía, which is Haec est unde vita venit, and which translates roughly as "This is where life comes from!" It is purposefully ambiguous, the "this," whatever "this" might be for the individual person; but whatever the "this" happens to be, the saying, and our work in this field of spiritual practice, is to put that thing at the center of one's attention and focus, and to live by proximity to and orbiting around that center. And that sounds like exactly what you've uncovered.

I find myself choosing this path over and over again, more fully each time, more aware of what it costs and what it pays, more deliberately, more passionately. Perhaps for some, it is enough to choose once, but not me. And the more I do, the more I am content here, because I know what I'm made for.
