Dragging Myself Kicking and Screaming

I need to leave the house soon to go to a big annual party at the home of one of my favorite people from FormerMyCo. Each summer, she and her husband open their home, cook pounds and pounds of great food, have an open bar, karaoke, and etc. and invite all their friends in. I was invited last year, but it was the day I observed the first anniversary of Lohain's death, and I just didn't have the energy.

This year, I promised her and myself I would go.
Of course I'm regretting it, and wishing I could stay home.
Okay, I could -- but I do that far too often.

It just feels strange to make the effort to spend forty-five minutes or so driving across the lake to attend an event I'm convinced I won't enjoy.

Except, I guess, that I suspect my "conviction" is as likely to be wrong as it is to be right.

It will be good to see my friend.

And I can leave any time.

ETA: I didn't have a great time, but I did enjoy some nice conversations. My buddy who was the hostess went out of her way to look out for me and make sure I wasn't left alone until I made some connections, which I really appreciated. Saw and chatted with some old MyCo colleagues, although none from my core teams. Gave away several business cards.
