I woke up today thinking about all the new realizations and progress of the past few weeks, and deciding to laugh rather than wince at the fact that most of these big, important mental-emotional-spiritual transitions are, when I get right down to it, basic stuff:

- Do your Work (your Work, not someone else's)
- Separate/differentiate yourself appropriately from your parents as you grow up
- Get some exercise and fresh air
- Know Thyself -- and then choose and act from that knowledge

The basic principles are pretty much universal.

Unfortunately -- or maybe not -- we each have to figure out how to understand, integrate, and act on this wisdom in our own lives.

And, because life is a spiral journey, we get to re-learn these lessons again and again and again, each time at a higher/deeper level as we progress.

I suspect that I'll be having revelations about these basic principles two decades from now that will feel just as urgent and important as these do now. Goodness knows I've had them before. . .

I can't tell you how many times I've been bowled over by a realization or piece of information and had a close friend go "Bzuh? You knew that already!"

When you really need to be aware of a thing, it can be as fresh and compelling and important the tenth time as it was the first. The impact tells you how much it means to you right now.

*hugs* You're doing fantastically well.

Hey, nice to meet you

Thanks for the comment. I met 9thmoon on a firearms forum, she's really cool, and I'm glad she's turning others on to firearms and the survival mindset...not the wacky, "tin-foil hat" or "build a seven-level underground bunker complex" survivalism. But the mindset, the know-how, the skills and the logistics to react with the widest spectrum of responses to any "bad" situation which may arise. Firearms are a pivotal part of that mindset (as are martial arts), as many way-laid plans need a strong facet of personal defense.

I'm constantly shifting my methodology to better adapt to what may likely transpire. I try to keep things lean and simple, but some areas have to be pretty intensely delved into.

If you have any questions about my "survival" (more of a "reactive readiness") philosophy or fairly robust firearms experience, feel free to ask me anything at anytime; I'll lend whatever knowledge and wisdom I can to help.

Nice meeting you,

Yes, this is what interests me as well -- although I admit that I am only beginning to start to think about it. I live in a suburb surrounded by affluence. It's very easy to just assume that "everything will be all right" -- and I'd like to get out of that mindset.

Do you have any favorite "start here" resources that you would recommend?

I agree. I used to live in a suburb of Chicago after I got out of the Air Force; I realized my options for reaction were severely restricted. So I moved to one of my former childhood homes (Montana). Much more conducive to my methodology and politics (not to mention the splendor of nature's beauty in every direction).

Yes, I started a good source with a bunch of resources (a few I wrote) at the following:

http://www.readinesshub.com/

but I stopped posting any new content as I've been too busy to keep up with it. Probably the best site is:

http://www.survivalblog.com/

While I don't agree with EVERYTHING he says, the baseline mindset he has is solid, practical pragmatism. Lots of places to start, I suggest you use his search function for the terms "Beginners" and "Urban" and see what crops up.

If you require any further insights, please feel free to ask, I'm at your disposal.

Good luck, best of wishes.
