It turns out that the problem with my bathroom water was a side-effect of some work done on the main line near our house. The Ex had called City Water about how to shut off the water temporarily so he could fix a chronic faucet leak in his tub. They installed a new valve, and the result was gunk in the waterline. Running it clear seems to have done the trick to 'fix' it.

I found this out *after* I ended up going to work without a shower or washed hair this morning.
