According to CNN, the entire text of the Dead Sea Scrolls is being digitized, and will be posted online and made available for anyone to view in two years.

One of the exciting things about the digitalization process is that it enables previously faded text and darkened parchment to become legible.

What an amazing asset for scholarship!

Awesome! I can only imagine how cool it would be to actually be involved in that whole process. I'll bet those who were selected are feeling like they just won the lottery! (At least I hope they do.) Lucky bums!!!

This is a good -- and long, long overdue -- development. But, on an only distantly related subject, I have to bang my head on my desk when I see things like this quote, from the CNN article:
"These are the earliest copies of the Bible ever found," said Pnina Shor, head of treatment and conservation at the Antiquities Authority.
I mean really. I know that Biblical and historical education isn't exactly CNN's mission, but can you imagine anything more mis-educating than characterizing the Dead Sea scrolls as "copies of the Bible?" Jeez.
