Look what I made!!

Photobucket

I may finally have found a craft that I enjoy and am good at!!

This is a meditation strand, designed to anchor my morning meditation cycle, which starts in the underworld, goes through the four elements and the stars, and then centers me. I wanted a set of prayer beads because I do this before I get out of bed in the morning and sometimes I'm pretty foggy. I expect that beads to help me center and focus. I've never really tried doing something like this before.... We'll see if it works as expected.

Thousands of thanks to [livejournal.com profile] oakmouse, who got me started on this, and who did such a good job of guiding me through my first project that a month later I was able to do this strand with the book simply as back-up confirmation! (The book is Pagan Prayer Beads by Clare Vaughn and John Michael Greer -- highly recommend if you want to try this craft!)

Prayer beads

What a lovely strand of prayer beads! I have read the book you mentioned and agree that it's an excellent resource for anyone interested in that. I made my own strand of prayer beads a few years ago. It was during a period of time when I was fascinated by the technique Catholics used with their prayer beads. My strand hangs in my car and has served me well. I actually incorporated some beads with a spiral on it very similar to the ones you used. Are there any good beading stores around the area? I haven't found one up here, yet. If you'd like to talk more about this, feel free to email me. Great job, and congratulations on your continued success with your classes. Sounds like it's provided a great learning opportunity both for your students and for you.

Bead Stores

Thank you!

I've been to three stores in the area.

"Beads and Beyond" is in Bellevue, and are open at their current location through the end of July. After that they are moving (the location has been sold to developers) to a spot a few blocks away. They have the most complete selection I've found.

"Alexander's Bead Bazaar" is in the 65th & Ravenna area. This was the first place I went to here in town. Lots of neat beads, especially in the area of semi-precious stones and unique exotic beads -- but most of their inventory is strands, and that can get pricey.

"Fusion Beads" is on Stone Way, near Lake Union. A nice, bright place with a wide selection.

There's a place called "Bead Hut" (?) in Kirkland, which I need to look at.

I've also found that the Redmond Ben Franklin has a very nice -- although relatively small - selection.

Let me know if you'd like to get together for an excursion!

Thank you!

And I love your icon!

I'm thinking of taking a picture of my projecgt (or a segment of it) and making it into an icon. . .
