Ack! I need a black ritual robe by Fourth of July weekend -- and not only have I not felt comfortable with anything I've seen online, I was told recently that I've probably waited too long to be able to place such an order anyway.

I myself possess neither the skills nor the tools to sew anything, so I need to either go to a local store (where I haven't been all that impressed with the quality -- or the likelihood of finding something in my size), or seek the help of friends with skills.

The robe itself should be fairly simple: floor length, hood, slightly-draping sleeves. I'd like the material to be of heavier weight.

I would, of course, pay for all materials, plus a mutally-agreed upon fee for the work of making it.

Preference given to someone in the greater Seattle area for purposes of fitting and reducing postage costs, but I'm open to any reasonable offer.

The event for which this is being made is a very special and important one, so I really need to have it done by the deadline.

Anyone interested??

Do you have a pattern? If so, and you can't find anyone close to you to do the job for you, I'd be happy to do so. I've been sewing since I was six years old and can follow patterns like reading them was my first language.

No matter who does the robe for you, would you post photos of yourself wearing it? I would love to see that.

Wanda, I'm impressed! I couldn't sew my way out of a proverbial paper bag... :-D

(I, too, would love to see you in your robe!)

Thanks for the offer -- but I've found someone locally to do the project for me.

I'll try to get photos!

[livejournal.com profile] laotzuribbon pointed me in your direction. I've been sewing for about five years, specializing in historical costumes and clothing, including cloaks and robes. If you'd be comfortable doing a long-distance project (I live in the Houston area), I'd love to chat with you about doing this project. Please email me at lmnorman at uh dot edu if you're interested : )

Oh, one more thing--I'm currently not working or in school, thus, I will guarantee I can make your deadline.

Thank you for the offer, but someone local, whose work I know, has volunteered!

If you don't find anyone local, let me know. I need to find a hood pattern, since my last attempt at robes with hoods did not meet my expectations. (The robes were fine in ritual and nobody said boo. But I was not satisfied.)

I've made quite a few robes.

P.S.

After the measuring, buying the fabric, etc. this is really only a one or two day project--even with the detail work to make it look like "ready to wear."

I'm going with a local volunteer, but thanks for the suggestion!
