Taking a Step Forward
May. 17th, 2008 06:57 pmI just submitted an online request to reserve classroom space to do a six-session workshop of "The Lamp & The Mirror: Illuminating and Reflecting on Personal Theology" --- which (as many of you are aware) is something I've been thinking about doing for a very long time.
I'd been telling myself I needed to have the entire workshop planned out in detail before I made arrangements to teach it -- but I realized recently that if I do that, it will never happen. Sometimes I need a deadline.
Besides, as someone recently pointed out: I didn't have a whole class planned when I submitted my proposal to Pantheacon last fall -- and that came out very well.
I have an outline of six subjects and how I want to cover them, plus creative/reflection homework assignments for participants to do between each session to encourage them to think ahead and play with the following week's topic. So I have a strong framework.
More bulletins as events warrant. . .

Date: 2008-05-18 10:10 pm (UTC)P.S. As far as your proposal goes, the Gods were gracious to you last time with the P'Con proposal. While you don't need a working model of the castle with recirculating pump moat stocked with fluorescent zebra fish (http://www.glofish.com/default.asp), hydraulic portcullis & drawbridge, twinkle lights in the windows, and a little fan to make the banners appear to flutter in the breeze before you can write your proposal, please don't push your—albeit excellent—favor with Them. Start with your six major points and write a self-contained section (ahem, chapter) for each (so your upcoming book will be ready to go.)

As for the prep work: now that I've taken the step of actively soliciting space to teach, I've been having all kinds of ideas again, and will definitely be continuing to work on it and be well prepared for the sessions.
"Upcoming book" hmm?
You remind me that I already owe two: one to My Lady Ereshkigal, and one to the P-con class.
