The airboat ride was exhilerating. The native guide was hot -- and fun to talk to. Saw wild crocs, learned some fascinating things about the local tribal culture. Over too soon, but still was worth the entire trip. Must get Wolfling out here someday.

This is more or less off topic, but...
What is Wolfling up to this summer? Any chance you'd consider sending her to a day-camp at the zoo?
It might be just the thing for her and I happen to know there are scholarships available if the price is too steep.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this. Between the trip and the new job, I'm way behind.

Thanks for the link. I think Wolfling would love hte Zoo Management class. I've sent her the URL and we'll talk. . .

Wolfling does not want to go to camp. I'm stunned -- especially regarding the zoo management session.

But it may be that she's reached the point where she's in hard-core "vacation mode" and this feels too much like school.

All the same, I do appreciate the pointer, and would love to hear about other events that come up.

Much to my chagrin, we don't offer many other programs for her age-group. Next summer's curricula looks really promising though. (Yes, we haven't even started this season and we're already planning for 2009) We'll be offering 2 programs for 10-12's and something completely cooler for 13-14's. If I remember right, she'll be 13 next year. She'll have a chance to participate in a program that will send her to various units (animal departments) of the zoo to help out for a couple hours each day and then come back to a few group activities and special projects. This program is still in a very conceptual stage, but I'm really excited about it.

That sounds right up her alley!
I hope it goes through!

Thanks again!
