For as long as I can remember, I've had periodic dreams about flying, Superman-style -- but not flying well. In adolescence I would dream about being in flight with no control at all over direction or speed.

A few years ago, I started to gain a bit of control. If I applied immense amounts of concentration I could manage small turns or changes in altitude.

Last night, I figured out how to do it. I dreamed that I obtained -- through gift or deceit, I can't remember -- a witch's broom. It was difficult to control at first, but eventually I got the hang of it. Then something clicked in my head, and I realized that I didn't need the broom. I understood how to access whatever part of my brain controls flight, and off I went. It still took concentration, but I could control altitude, speed, and direction almost effortlessly. The witch was angry with me, but I was able to use my newfound skill to evade her.

Later, however, I was sitting with an acquaintance who warned me soberly that this skill, coming as it did from a witch, would inevitably lead to evil, even if I did not intend it. In the dream I had a gut sense that she was right, which bothers me now.

It's going to be interesting to see if I hold on to the talent for flight in future dreams. As my control has slowly grown over the years I've never had a dream that's gone back to a less-capable stage. I don't dream of flight very often, but when I do I get better at it. We'll see if the understanding/control I achieved last night is something I retain in the future.

It's funny. I have the same thing. I used to dream about flying often, and now I dream about it very rarely. But when I do, my capability progresses or stays the same, it never falls back.
The feeling of flying seems so real that when I wake up, I think I can really do it.

I don't fly superman style, I float, like a balloon. I used to just float, without any control over speed or direction, but now I do control that. I still can't go very fast, but fast enough.

On flying

I love flying dreams! When I fly in my dreams, it's more like I'm sort of floating, and a lot of the time when I needed to decrease my altitude, I usually did it head-first. (Think of the way a mermaid moves but without the water and flying instead of swimming.) When I was more into studying dream interpretations, I read that dreams of flight theoretically symbolize that the dreamer has released certain cares or worries. The idea was that the higher one flew - or the better control one had flight - then the bigger the concern or worry that had been released.

I don't think you need to worry too much about your new skills leading to evil. In my opinion, power doesn't seem to be good or bad, it just is what it is. Maybe the witch in your dream had used that skill for evil, and maybe she was intending on tricking you into using it for evil later on...but the skill is not evil in and of itself and you're a good person and always think things through and seem to make the right decision, so I think you'll be fine.

You seem to be coming into your own power in a lot of ways lately, and maybe your subconscious is just trying to sort out a little bit of lingering insecurities that might be scurrying about?

But next time you go flying, you gotta take me with you! :-D

*chuckles* Weird, I had a strange "discovering magic powers" dream last night too. Now you've got me wanting to write about it on my LJ. LOL

Oh, and I always dream of brooms when I fly, or some other kind of similar implement. I've no idea what it means.

I usually have flight trouble, too: the first time I stumble across a broom or something, I can magic it so it flies, and then I fly really well. But, eventually I have to land for some reason, usually without getting where I really want to be. And, once I land, the next time I fly, it's like I'm heavier or something, or the broom's spell isn't working as well.

I can't get as high as before, or fly as fast, or it cuts out in the middle, and I have to use my other powers to keep myself from crash-landing.

*grins* It's weird. And of course, ridiculously fun.

I like the "evil flying power" warning you got. Of COURSE we're all evil; we wouldn't have it any other way! ;)
