I spent yesterday by myself, which I needed from an emotional perspective, but by the end of the day I was feeling depressed and twitchy. In the course of browsing through several books on magical practice, I came across the image of a banishing pentagram. I've seen this figure many, many times since I first started reading about magic back in the spring of 1988 -- but I'd never actually used one. Not until last night.

Feeling the energy around me getting more and more depressed and vaguely threatening, I got up and firmly traced the banishing pentagram, putting a lot of energy and intent into it, aiming it at the corner of my room where I felt the most 'blech'. To my surprise, as I closed the pentagram I felt it activate. There was a small but perceptible pop! and the energy beyond the pentagram cleared.

blink, blink
It worked?
blink, blink

So I went through my house drawing banishing pentagrams -- and each time it had the same effect: a pop, followed by a sense of the negativity dissipating. I deliberately avoided getting too excited about it at the time, not wanting my rational mind to kick in and start messing things up -- but it was an amazing experience.

As Thalassa likes to say about her tarot work,
"TSW! This Shit Works!"

how wonderful!

*grin

What's funny is that tarot and other things have been working for me for years.

I need to make a post about why I think I was both open to doing this at all and why it worked now when it didn't before.

Hah!

*high-fives QOS*

Good. I was hoping you would hit that point sooner or later. We'll want to discuss where you want/need to go with this aspect of your training.

So, what does this banishing pentagram look like? I don't think I've seen them at Target.

It's a five-pointed star that you trace starting in the lower left corner and going up to the top, and going on from there. There are more elaborate banishing rituals using the pentagram, as well.

Okay. I know what a pentagram is but I was wondering about the process. My partner is a pagan priest - maybe he knows something.

The process has to do with the corner from which you start drawing, as well as the intention that goes into it. That's as much as I know at this time.

Yep. According to my sources it's elemental. The corner you start from engages on the corresponding elemental level. So says my bf and his wife, both priests in Blue Star Wicca.
