Months ago, I promised photographs of The New Place.
Here they are!

The entry hall. All those pictures on the floor need to be framed and hung. The door barely visible on the right is the guest bathroom.

Come through the entry, turn to the left, and there's the kitchen.

On the other side of the divider is the "dining room" -- which is currently primarily my office space, and where I just set up the treadmill. I'm getting a desk for my bedroom, so I can get my computer and papers off the table, but it hasn't been delivered yet.

The living room, featuring the purple comfy couch.

The built in bookshelves and the entry hall -- and all the stuff I took off the coffee table and didn't realize would be visible on the floor in this photo. I'll clean it up when I'm done posting. (Really!!)

On the coffee table: the altar I put together for a blot for Freyja this morning.

The queen's bed.

Window overlooking the pool, bookshelves, altar, doorway to private bathroom and walk-in closet.

Bathroom door and bureau -- which matches the bedframe beautifully, even though they weren't bought at the same time.

This doesn't show the upper hall with the built-in desk (too dark and not enough air to be a good workspace), my daughter's room and her bathroom.

It's not all that big, but it's full of light, and so comfortable.

That's nice to read.
I wanted very much for it to be a welcoming, relaxing space.

Oh that looks absolutely delightful. And very... it looks like a welcoming place to come home to. Plus I could make out the Jacqueline Carey books on the shelf, which made me happy.

It is a welcoming place to come home to -- much more than my old place! I can come in, put my stuff down, and just lean back on the couch for a while and relax in the light and the space and my nice things around me.

I love the Kushiel series! ;-)

I have three different libraries: the A books in my bedroom, the B books in the living room which are books I like that are great as conversation starters, and the C books which are on bookshelves in my double-length garage.

Looks wonderful! Glad you've escaped the underworld. Again. Hope to have a chance to see it in person before too long.

If I walked into your home without knowing whose it was, I could in short order figure it out just from what I know of you from Livejournal. Very personal space.

And I LOOOOVE your bedroom furniture.

*grin

Yes, it definitely is my space.

I've collected the furniture slowly. I've "settled for" so much where furniture was concerned, that a couple of years ago I promised myself I'd only buy what I really loved. I'd do with what I had until then, but no more futon couches or Target desks just because they were cheap.

Fortunately, now that Autumn is well underway no one is in the pool anymore. Instead of being a magnet for noise, it's become a lovely terrain feature, especially at night when the light inside makes it glow.

I love the built in bookcases!

And I also love your bed. What is the picture on the wall to the left of the bed? And the crocheted item on the bed? do you crochet? Also what are the two little statue things on the stand next to the bed. one looks like it's a candlestick holder.

I love the built-in bookshelves too -- and the bed!

The picture on the wall next to the bed is Corsair, by Nene Thomas

The crocheted item is a prayer shawl which [livejournal.com profile] oakmouse made for me shortly after [livejournal.com profile] uncrowned_king's death.

The statues on the bestand are an Isis candleholder and a statue of Magdalene carrying her jar. There's a blank spot to one side of Isis where Freyja usually sits, but she was down on the coffee table for the blot when I took the photo.
