Of course we have record-breaking heat right after I move out of my always-cool-in-summer basement. I will be sleeping downstairs on the couch under the ceiling fan tonight. (The daughter is with her father for a couple of days.)

This morning I had an upper endoscopy, which revealed that I have a hiatal(sp?) hernia, which means a piece of my stomach is keeping the valve at the top from closing completely. I'm told they usually don't do surgery to correct this, but control symptoms through dietary changes. The back of my throat is sore from the camera -- and evidently I struggled against it even under sedation, so that probably didn't help.

Cable tv and internet have both been out since last night. Provider's circuits were all busy, so I guess it's not just me.

I slept most of the afternoon and early evening. I'm not sure how much is due to the lingering sedative in my system and how much is due to overall fatigue.

I don't like the thought that there's something wrong with my body that's not going to be fixed. I'm fortunate that it's not a very serious issue, but it still makes me twitchy.

Well, there's "fixing" and then there's fixing. Let's talk about it when we next get together.

And now that I've reminded myself about it ... I'll try it on myself. ;)

...

It's hot.

They want to an endoscopy on me but want me to be awake, it terrifies me so I will not do it. I wonder if I went to another doctor if they would be willing to put me out. There is no way I can do that awake....

I was at the Digestive Disease Center at the UW hospital.
Maybe your doc would be willing to refer you there?

Sympathy on the melting. We've been in the upper 90s, with thunderstorms just for added fun. *peers uneasily out window at cloudy sky* Likewise sympathy on the internet outage.

Please don't worry about the hiatal hernia. They're manageable and can be worked around. My mom lived with one for *calculates* something like 15 or 20 years and had very little trouble with it except when she ate lots of foods on the verboten list. They ended up fixing it surgically when she had to have an abdominal surgery for something else (on the while-you're-up principle) but she could have gone on with it and not had a diminished quality of life at all.
