Dad's Pituitary

qosI just talked with my dad. The doctor told him that he has to have surgery to remove the tumor on his pituitary gland. The good news is that this isn't - as I had mistakenly been thinking - going to involve "brain surgery."
The pituitary gland is outside the brain.
What's more: this surgery is considered a "routine procedure."
They won't need to open the skull, but will go in through his nasal passages. Recovery is probably 2-3 days in the hospital.
My uncle, who died last year on April 11th, had a brain tumor. After the surgery he was never the same. I'd been worried that the same thing might happen to my dad. It's a tremendous relief to find out this isn't the same kind of procedure.
