Another snooze of a day here at work. After coming back to work yesterday there was one mundane voicemail, and nothing of import in my email.

My last request for input/questions/conversation got such wonderful responses, I thought I would ask again today.

Anyone out there care to throw a conversational scrap my way?

OK, you asked for it--

Would you have any interest in joining a Livejournal community dedicated to Grail mysticism and the interplay between pagan and Christian traditions in the Arthurian corpus?

Are you volunteering to set it up, or would you like me to do that?

It would certainly give me something to do today. . .

Well, it was my idea, but then, I'm already moderating one community ([livejournal.com profile] youngwizards) in a half-assed fashion, so maybe you should set it up and be the moderator. I'll gladly join and help promote it. "grailmysticism" for a name? or something with "avalon" in it?

"GrailMysticism" sounds good to me!
I've never moderated an LJ community before. Anything you think I should know, off the top of your head?

The one thing you should know is that you can ban people who behave badly. *g* Do you belong to any communities? Have a look at their info pages and see what they say. Take a look at my communities if you haven't joined any yourself.

Whaddya think? Klingons or Jedi?

LOL!

What comes first to mind is Dr. McCoy's words from "The Omega Glory": "I've found that evil usually wins unless Good is very, very careful" -- but then I realize that classifying all Klingons as "Evil" and all Jedi as "Good" is a bad move on all kinds of levels.

If it were a one-on-one combat, I'd bet on the Jedi. For ship-to-ship battles, I'd bet on the Klingons. I've yet to see any indication that Jedi know anything about fleet tactics.

Are we talking the post-movie samurai-clone heavy-prosthetic Klingons here, or are we talking the Real Klingons--the desperate, hungry hunters with spaceships of the original series? Any one of whom could outfox those stuck-up martial artists with lightsabers. *g*

This contribution comes from one of my best friends, with whom I shared in email the previous contents of this thread:

A Jedi Starfighter should be more than a match for a Klingon D-7 Cruiser. In one-on-one combat, my money would be on the Klingon. Why? Klingons (real Klingons - not Worf) are certainly not George's goofy battle droids, but real nasty in-your-face killers who are not afraid to die. Obi-Wan would be dead with a Klingon shrimp fork up his nose faster
than he could say "Wha. . .?"

In the epic battle between Good and Evil? Evil has more fun! I thought everyone knew that.

In watching the Original Series anew over the past nine months or so, I've been struck by how different the original Klingons are from Worf and his brethren. They come across as desperate hunter-gatherers who've exhausted their own planet's resources and been forced to push outward. They have no philosophy except that the universe is a hostile place and one must wring what one requires from its grasp. They're grubby and lowbrow and I really like them better than all that highbrow pseudo-samurai nonsense one gets in Next Gen and after.

Can't say I'm all that enamored of the OS Klingons. They were simplistic and a tad stupid and I don't see how they would have managed to actually form an empire.

Now Klingons 2.0 and up are my cup of blood wine. I relate well to their code of honor and love of the glory of battle. I also see the beauty in their attempt to triumph over their lower selves by living up to the high ideals of their culture. Many fail. But those who rise up to meet the challenge laid before them are .... well, they're hot baby. And I want one. ;)

Honor makes me itch. *g* In real life honor usually means that somebody else gets bitched up so *your* honor can be satisfied. I distrust all that sort of thing. Actually, give me the sneaky but well-groomed and well-dressed Romulans (especially in Diane Duane's Rihannsu version).

Amen! Ael (I can never remember the rest of her name) is one of my favorite heroines!

The Wounded Sky is marvelous, and I loved Doctor's Orders.
