Thank you to
neversremedy who posted about a job she decided she couldn't apply for -- and which made me go *squee!*
Editor, Internet Movie Database-020873
Job Description
The Internet Movie Database (IMDb.com) is looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, knowledgeable business content editor who is willing to commit to a demanding but satisfying position improving the breadth, depth, and accuracy of the business contact information for our subscription service, IMDb Pro.com. Successful candidates will have a strong working knowledge of the entertainment industry, including agencies, studios, and other media concerns, with outgoing interpersonal skills, including the ability to 'cold call' businesses to ascertain information. Though data entry will be a requirement and mainstay of the job, strategic thinking will also need to be employed to provide meaningful results. Editor will provide aggressive and creative methods to ensure that IMDb Pro.com's business contact information is as accurate as possible, as quickly as possible. Editor will be a self-starter, detail-oriented, capable of handling multiple projects at once, able to take direction, comfortable working with teams, vendors, and management, and will maintain a positive demeanor and flexible schedule.
Qualifications
Extra points for the person who can identify the source of the following quote:
Gorman: All we know is that there is still is no contact with the colony, and that a xenomorph may be involved.
Frost: Excuse me sir, a what?
Gorman: A xenomorph.
Hicks: It's a bughunt.
How many jobs look for someone to do both intensive data entry and strategic thinking??
And IMDB has been at the top of my bookmark list -- right next to Amazon.com and Netflix -- for a long time.
Wish me luck!

Date: 2006-09-16 12:42 am (UTC)I love icons. I love making them. I love finding cool ones and getting permission to swipe them. I love the way they silently but vividly reinforce my words.

Date: 2006-09-16 04:11 pm (UTC)When I read it, that's what I thought, but I couldn't be sure, so I used IMDB's character search to confirm. Then, in my cover letter, I told them how I had used IMDB to verify my hunch.
