For She-Who-Will-Not-Be-Named-But-Is-Currently-on-a-Sean-Bean-Kick. . . and anyone else who loves Bean or swashbuckling historical drama.

Sharpe's Challenge is the first new televised Sharpe in adventure in quite a few years.

One of these photos shows someone (the director?) demonstrating to Bean how to hit someone.

Somehow, after all the years he's been playing rough-and-tumble characters, I'd think he'd be be past needing instruction.

WOOT! I'm wiping drool off the keyboard. Thank you! How exciting to have a gazillion more shows of it to watch.

One gripe about show biz though... Bean is a delicious 13 years older now, and the girl in this episode is more glamorous... and perhaps younger.. than the one kicking French ass in the first episode?

Yeah. . . unfortunately the ageism double-standard of Hollywood seems to carry over to Europe sometimes as well. Although they do seem to be more likely to provide meaty roles for 'older' actresses.

I had a dream about Sharpe and the chosen men two nights ago. Your "proper bastard" icon reminded me. I was with the men at one of their supply wagons, and Sharpe came over. Evidently I had born his child(!!). But we were not on good terms. We fought, and he grabbed my arm, and I told him that if he ever struck me again he would never see me or the baby again. Very intense -- and completely out of the blue.

A line of the first episode has always stuck with me, "How do you repay the man who taught you to write your own name?"

That is a good one.

Do you consider yourself a fan?

Absolutely, though I haven't gotten to see much of the subsequent series.

If you're into Sean Bean, I hope you're planning on seeing Silent Hill (squee!) in the theater... >:)

I love Bean, but horror movies just hit me too hard to see them.
I can't remember "it's just a movie," and I'm afraid of the dark for weeks afterward.
