qos: (Water in Pail)
[personal profile] qos
Monday, 5:46am, and all is dry inside my house.
(It's still pouring outside.)

The swimming pool pump worked too well last night: it would get ahead of the water level and dry out, requiring re-priming. This happened every fifteen minutes or so.

What finally kept the water out of my house and allowed the Ex and me to finally retire to our separate bedrooms?

A siphon. Suction and gravity. A single hose running from the drain through my door and into the drain in the laundry room, primed with suction. It's evidently kept up a steady flow all night, enough to keep the water below flood level.

Of course, it was almost midnight by the time I got to bed, I didn't fall asleep immediately, and it's now 5-forty-something in the morning, so I'm very tired and not entirely awake.

But my floor is dry.
