You are The Queen of Hearts
Everyone fears and despises you. Perhaps you're
just misunderstood?
What Alice in Wonderland Character Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla
As I've mentioned here before, I stage managed an un-cut production of "Hamlet" during the last semester of my senior year of college. The director was a professor who liked to begin classes - and some rehearsals - by writing quotations on the board. One day he began Hamlet rehearsal by writing a quote from the trial scene in "Alice" in which the Queen of Hearts shouts for order until everyone is sitting down and ready. Under the quotation, he wrote, "For [QoS]." As stage manager, one of my main jobs was getting 20 or so young actors in place, organized, and quiet at the appropriate times. A challenging job on the best of days.
I thanked him for the quote. His response (probably after an intervening exchange) was, "There are two kinds of people in the world: queens and diplomats."
"I'm a diplomat," I said.
He shook his head. "No, you're not. You're a queen. You just haven't found your full confidence yet."
This was the most demanding professor in our department and the one who I most respected. He was also not inclined to engage in personal chat or empty comments. Having him call me a queen made a powerful impression on me. I felt that he saw and acknowledged in me something I had only hoped to be.
Of course, as the clip above suggests, being a Queen rather than a Diplomat comes with certain less-than-admirable qualities that must be guarded against. But my success as a mediator suggests that I do a reasonable job at that.
The other Queen of Hearts reference comes from the Traveller game I played in. My character, Tasha, was the (much beleagured) captain. When the group finally raised enough money to buy a ship, it was named "The Queen of Hearts," in Tasha's honor.
