Total cost of my car repair: $95.94.

My mechanic talked the manufacturer of the alternator into agreeing that mine was still under warranty, so there was no charge for the new one. My belt was one step from dead, so that has been replaced just prior to catastrophic breakdown. Charge for labor, minus a preferred customer discount.

Is it any wonder I remain faithful to a mechanic 20 miles away?


We're celebrating The Daughter's tenth birthday this Saturday. Her actual birthday isn't until the 29th, but for the past couple of years it's gotten lost in Christmas. So this Saturday we're having a pirate party. She'll have 6-8 other kids here for the usual stuff: games, cake & ice cream, and presents. This is not the kind of event I do well. Pray for me.

And in other good news: the Ex's SO's eldest daughter and her two little kids are moving out this Friday! I can not tell you how grateful I am. Hopefully this will be the last set of charity cases lodging upstairs for a long time.

Do reveal the identity of this lovely mechanic. I don't actually need one now, but I'll need one eventually with a 15 year old car. There's little I hate more than getting screwed by a mechanic, which is part of why I do most of my own repairs anyway.

I'm always happy to recommend him. His name is Eric, and his shop is Sparks Auto Care (or Sparks Car Care, I can never remember). It's up in Everett, on Hwy 99, in the Empire Industrial Park: 425-347-0800.

Thanks for the good wishes. I have a friend from work who loves doing parties who will be here with me, so I won't be alone. But it's almost funny how intimidating it is.
