Envy!

via [livejournal.com profile] iswari, who I envy for her strong connection to her spiritual community:

We all have things about our friends that make us slightly envious. Not in a bad way, but in a 'Wow! I wish I had that person's hair/eyes/money/relationship/toenails/whatever.' So tell me what about me makes you envy me (if there is such a thing), then post this in your LJ and see what makes me envious of you.

(Feel free to leave silliness as well as sincerity!)

I admore your ability to juggle squirrels.

Seriously, I admire your journeying with the infinite and your thoughtful examination of your place in life, your posts about your spiritual explorations are both thought-provoking and calming.

(no, really, it's the squirrels.)

But of course. . . my mastery of squirrel juggling has been an important element in my ability to instill thoughts and calmness in others. So it's all related!

You seem to be spiritually secure, and I envy that.

It's a hard-won security. . . and paradoxically one that comes from having abandoned most of the structures of security that so many seek in religion. It's kind of a free-fall, trusting in the Love and Grace of the Creator.

I feel good, then, that I am on the right track. For I have let go of a lot of my former structures of security in religion, as well.

In all honesty, I envy your hair. You have good hair.

Okay, and I also envy your ability to get so absorbed in an interest and let it grow. As a dilletante of life, I have problems being committed to most personal interests in a long-term way.

My hair?
That's funny! I would never have guessed.

And I'm not sure I'm all that committed to personal interests as you claim. I feel like it's been a very long time since I was really committed to anything that actually went anywhere.

Au contraire! You get absorbed in something, you find all you can, it becomes a part of you, then you incorporate it with the rest, or use it as a starting point and go on to something else. Recent obsessions: Firefly, Battlestar Galactica. Look at your relationships in the past - look at the people you have connected with, and how many still are in your life. Look at how your spirituality continues to evolve - you aren't jumping all over, you're developing more intricate patterns to what you've started with!

And you have good hair. Nice and thick. And straighter than mine, which makes me VERY envious.

Do you have any idea how comforting it is to read that?

I envy that you've directed a play and that you know that you could do it again because you have what it takes.

Somedays, I envy those - including you of course - who have a child (or children).

*nods*

The experience as a director is something that I cherish in myself.

Being a mom is something I remain ambivalent about from time to time, but I definitely deserve envy in the particular child I have. *smile*

I envy that you have done so much with your life, most especially the writing and stage theory you studied. I really look up to you as both a struggling writer and as a young woman. Plus I always dig your LJ pictures/avatars.

Does age 40 still count as a young woman? ;-)
But I have been very fortunate in my experiences.

I love the whole icon aspect of LJ. I love looking for the best images for myself, and then matching them to posts.

covet the icons (icon love!)
and the seeming unanimity of the images you have chosen to represent yourself.

I'm planning to craft more icons but I don't have a given symbol or idea that unifies. *shrug* Maybe later!

More icon love!

I really enjoy the hunt for new icons, and having a big library to choose from.

It's interesting that you see unanimity in the images. I see some groups of themes, but not an overall sense. But I like that you sense one.

I envy your ability to get along and thrive in a living situation that would make me stab myself to death. I envy and admire your faith and trust that you are doing the right thing, that you just follow your path and go.

Well, I can't take all the credit. The fact that my Ex -- who drives me crazy in several ways -- is a genuinely nice person who feels a strong desire to help others, and that makes a big difference. I couldn't do this if he wasn't someone who is usually pretty easy to live near.
