Me, sitting at my desk at work: I'm feeling kind of spacy & floaty.

Self: Maybe you should ground.

Me: Ground?

Self: Yes, ground. You know: connect to earth, ground energy... All that good stuff your practice is supposed to be promoting. . . ??

Me: You mean that practice I haven't done for the past three days?

Self, raising eyebrow: As a matter of fact.

Me: Ummm. . . right.

[Going to ground now. . . and take a closer look at what's gotten in the way of practice this week.]

It turns out that I'm supposed to have a screen door on my bedroom balcony! I'm supposed to be able to have fresh air without risking bugs and other stuff getting in!

After being eaten alive by mosquitos last night -- killing at least eight of them in the act of biting me, and finally being driven from my room by heat and one final mosquito buzzing around my head -- this is just about the best news I could possibly have today.

I am now the happy owner of a 2003 Saturn L200 with only 24,000 miles on it.
It drives very nicely and feels like it was designed for a person of my proportions in mind.
It's yet another gray, four-door sedan, but the interior has black upholstery with color inserts that liven it up a bit.

This really does feel like a significant adult rite of passage: making a major purchase as the decision maker. The last cars "I bought" were actually primarily purchased by my then-husband with me along as a courtesy. My car before that was a college graduation gift from my parents (it was the family car a good many years on it). So this is a big deal for me.

My 1997 Ford Escort -- with 157,059 miles on it -- was bid goodbye with thanks for more than ten years of faithful, mostly trouble-free service.
