qos: (Homemade Queen)
Last week Dave emailed me from the road to ask if I could recommend a place for his wife to get a spa treatment. I did some Googling, sent a couple of links to places that looked like possibilities, and then said that personally I like to go to the Gene Juarez spa and salon, because I love their body treatments and you could get everything done there: skin, hair, nails, massage, etc.

Yesterday he presented me with a gift certificate for a "Taste of Spa" treatment: facial, body treatment, massage, and make-up -- a $200+ expense (I know because I looked it up later).

His note said, "Thank you for making my onboarding such a smooth and pleasant experience."

He could have done a lot less and still made me feel appreciated.

The Little Bear felt a lot better after her nap yesterday (and so did I -- I slept for two hours!). No more fever, and she could eat and drink and keep everything down. But she's staying home from school today to accord with policy. Unfortunately this means that she will miss her class's trip to the Nordic Heritage Museum. But on the other hand, I now have a strong motivation to take her there myself. [livejournal.com profile] uncrowned_king, shall we make an outing of it, the three of us?

[livejournal.com profile] _storyteller_ was chuckling over this yesterday evening and I asked him to send me the link. The language is blunt (but funny), but I think he gets to the essentials.

It's 8:13pm and I've only just finished dinner.

The homeward commute was very slow, then I grabbed [livejournal.com profile] _storyteller_ and we went to the grocery store. Back at the house he and the daughter did the dishes while I breaded chicken. Then he made a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough.

Dinner has only been over for about fifteen minutes. I didn't eat much, but I'm letting it settle a bit more before I do the 3 miles on the schedule for this evening.

There is something mortally perverse about walking on the treadmill and smelling fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies.

Tonight I'll start watching Atlantic City to keep me entertained while I walk.
I need to find a somewhat taller stand for my laptop so I don't have to look down and to the side.

Some nights its a relief not to be doing high intensity, even though it means spending more time at it.
