I just received notification from Amazon that Guy Gavriel Kay's new novel "Ysabel" has been released and is on its way to me.

GGK is one of my all-time favorite authors, but his previous novel, "The Last Light of the Sun", was a disappointment. It felt like the work of a less-skilled person writing 'in the style of' GGK.

"Ysabel" is evidently a departure from his usual genre (which could be called pseudo-historical fantasy). I am hoping the switching of his creative gears will revitalize his writing.

When he is at the peak of his ability, his work is enthralling.

Mom Duties

I planned to spend this evening alone doing some serious processing in my paper journal.

My daughter wants very much for me to play on the Wii with her.

I really don't want to do it.
I want to go into my bedroom and shut the door and be alone.

But I so seldom actually play with her.
And she deserves my attention.

She can't have the entire evening -- but it will do us both good for me to spend an hour in her bedroom playing with her.

Played three or four different "Cars" games with The Daughter (even won one!).
She had fun.
I had fun.
She sent me off to do My Own Thing with a cheerful hug and a "I love you, Mommy!"

My heart feels all warm and fuzzy.
