Such a Day

Today started out great. I was rested, invigorated, peaceful, cheerful.

Things hit a snag after noon.

The first was waiting for the results from Dad's bone scan. His appointment was at noon, and more than an hour and a half later, I still hadn't heard from him. I was sure this meant Bad Things. Instead, he eventually called with "the best possible news under the circumstances." That being: the cancer, although aggressive (and in three different forms!) is "clinically contained" within the prostate. His doctor said that even without treatment he'd still have at least a five year life expectancy. And of course there will be treatment. It's now a matter of deciding what.

The bad news is that Jeannie announced her resignation today. I was stunned.
I really have no ties to this company except her.
Her leaving could open the door for me to be more aggressive in pursuing my vocational professional development. In the meantime, after 9/21, I'm going to be reporting to an empty office again. Technically, of course, they'll assign me to someone else within my department as a supervisor, but that will only be until the position is filled. But that could take some time. I don't think they have anyone inside with the qualifications necessary to do her job.

It was an emotional day, and it will be a while before all the different threads resolve themselves. These transitions are on top of the huge -- and welcome -- one of [livejournal.com profile] _storyteller_ arriving in town a week from today to move into his new apartment.

I forsee the need for even more journaling, questing, and a tarot reading or two. . .
