qos: (Water in Pail)
Monday, 5:46am, and all is dry inside my house.
(It's still pouring outside.)

The swimming pool pump worked too well last night: it would get ahead of the water level and dry out, requiring re-priming. This happened every fifteen minutes or so.

What finally kept the water out of my house and allowed the Ex and me to finally retire to our separate bedrooms?

A siphon. Suction and gravity. A single hose running from the drain through my door and into the drain in the laundry room, primed with suction. It's evidently kept up a steady flow all night, enough to keep the water below flood level.

Of course, it was almost midnight by the time I got to bed, I didn't fall asleep immediately, and it's now 5-forty-something in the morning, so I'm very tired and not entirely awake.

But my floor is dry.

I spent some time off on my own yesterday, away from the distractions of the house, to work on the text for my spiritual direction website. And I made progress. I was going to post some of it here today for feedback, but last night's adventures with water and this morning's fuzzy head preclude that. Hopefully I'll have the time and clarity to do it this evening.

The most helpful thing I did was stop writing for some anonymous audience and started writing what I actually say to people who ask about what I do.

Who Should Paint You: Salvador Dali

You're a complex, intense creature who displays many layers.
There's no way a traditional portrait could ever capture you!
