Yesterday I got off work on time for the first time since receiving my offer letter -- which was good, because it's going to be a busy week. I went to the mall and actually found 2.5 outfits that look good on me, which was a real mood lifter, went home, shaved my legs, changed, and then went out again to a Solstice party.

It was a low-key affair: four of us having dinner outside and then doing tarot readings. We were going to have a fire and burn herbs and intentions, but the readings ended up being very involved, so it was suddenly almost 10pm and the bugs were biting and I had to get up the morning, so I left early.

I've been reading tarot since the spring of 1988, but it's only been within the last year or so that I've stopped referencing the book during my interpretations, and I sometimes make up spreads as I go, especially when the querent has a specific question that involves different choices.

Each of us had the Queen of Wands come up last night as "coming into being" or "face to the world", which was startling.

I had Star inverted as my significator; Moon inverted as atmoshpere, crossed by the Page of Wands. Passing away was Six of Swords, Queen of Wands was coming into being. Center and left were all blue-toned cards, to the right all yellow-orange. I almost never get the Star, which is a card I love. This arrangement suggested to me that I need to go deeper into lunar/psychic parts of myself - which I tend to view with scepticism and some nervousness - if I'm going to tap into the full energies of the Star.

House was Queen of Swords, which worried me at first, because I thought it indicated that I was so self-focused that I was neglecting my relationships. The other women countered strongly that no, this meant I was authentically being myself in my relationships. It was only when driving home that it might also be an indicator of the importance of my LiveJournal community.

The outcome was Hanged Man inverted, so (because it was inverted) I put down three more cards: Nine of Swords (night terrors), 2 of Swords, and finally 8 of Pentacles, which made me laugh. I've been fretting a lot over my lack of expertise in a lot of Pentacles areas, particularly home-making. The little boy conentrating on his basic woodworking told me that I don't have to be a virtuouso in the realm of pentacles. I can show up, do what I can well, and with diligence, and everything will be fine. I can save my big efforts for those areas in which I have passion and real talent.

There were more cards of course, but those were the highlights.

Today, instead of wearing dark, drapy fabrics to work, I'll be wearing khaki green capris with a light green, v-necked short-sleeved top set off with a strip of light green floral fabric edged with a lacy pattern, with light green stone earrings set in silver. I bought a second pair of the pants in bright red too!

Tonight, I start at the gym again!
