Christmas Shopping!

Somewhat on a whim, I picked up The Child early from afterschool care yesterday, and we went Christmas shopping. Personally, I find malls at Christmas time scary things -- but since I have a young child and a busy schedule, a mall within two miles of home is a Good Thing.
We were finished and out of there in less than two hours. It helped that we did joint gifts for my parents, but we selected something for my mother, my father, her father (my ex, who lives upstairs), and one from her to my sister, with very little effort. Two of the gifts were wrapped for free while we stood there. And they were *great* gifts, not just "oh, let's just get this."
I still need to get her a gift or two, and we'll have to come back after my next paycheck to pick up a particular item for her godfather -- but the hard part is done.
And we had fun -- which is the really great part. We started around 5:30 and were out of the mall by 7pm, so she didn't get overtired. She got to feel like she made some serious decisions, which also made her feel good.
One merchant gives out boxes of chocolates every year. Every year, our friends there give The Child a box of her own. This year, like last year, she opened it immediately and started passing out chocolates to everyone who helped us, and was delighted when she gave them all away before we left the mall.
Had I mentioned that I have a *great* kid?
