Busy.
Tired.
The new Sr. Manager of Communications thinks I'm a wonderful person for delegating projects to.
I have new glasses because I scratched the old ones too badly to have them buffed.
This week's one page assignment for Christian Scriptures class has not been done. (It was due Tuesday night.)
Haven't started the assigned reading for this week.
House is a mess.
I don't have time or energy to think about the stuff that really matters to me right now.

Found out that my very bad myopia means that my eyes are very long, which means that I am at higher risk for detached retinas. My eyes have been very bad since second grade and this is the first time anyone has mentioned this to me. My new eye doc gave me a very thorough check up two nights ago and told me I have had several small holes and tears in my retinas, but my body has repaired them with unusually neat and symmetrical circles of pigment. In fact, they are so neat that she is going to do some research because she's never seen anything like it before.

Which is basically what my entire medical history has been like: doc takes second look at some aspect of my body, mutters, "That's strange. . . ." and then proceeds to describe yet another part of me that is oddly abnormal but not life-threatening. (Had I mentioned that my orthodontist used to take my x-rays and moulds to conventions with him?)

I missed down the rabbit hole day yesterday, much to my disappointment, but I enjoyed the dispatches of [livejournal.com profile] thomryng and [livejournal.com profile] tamnonlinear. If I wasn't so tired and running late for work I'd include a link to the posts. They were both delightful. Maybe I'll find a time tunnel this weekend. . .

I am glad that it's Friday.

John has pretty much the same situation with his eyes. He wasn't permitted to play football as a boy, for instance, because a bad bump might detach those old retinas.

Unique and strange body parts

My sister has the same problems (or not). "Hmm, that's wierd," says the doctor. She's got weird optical nerves, of all things. Shortened hamstrings. Partially dislocated shoulders. But it's all stuff that's not noticeable or particularly debilitating. Just...weird.

Your doctor mentioned it because you're approaching the Next Decade, just as my doctor (who is but a few days different in age than I ) is pointing things out prefaced with "Now that we're both in our forties..."

I'm beginning to think that nobody matches the textbook. My dad gets hyped up by tranquilizers. My Spouse burns of anesthesia at an alarming rate. I have extra nerve trunks and bilateral nerve crossovers (makes getting a filling exciting!) and extra webbing on my extremities. Not a single "normal" person in my circle of friends.
