I recently added a new element to my practices: lighting the candle on my household altar first thing in the morning and spending a few minutes there. The centering and grounding it gives me is far out of proportion to the effort and time expended.

This morning I felt like there wasn't much point to doing it. I slept badly last night and this morning I feel like I'm hung over. My head is fuzzy and I can barely keep my eyes open. I didn't feel like I could bring any coherence to the observance -- but I did it anyway.

To my surprise, just sitting there made me feel better, more solid, more calm.

Sometimes -- okay, a lot of the time -- I forget that I don't have to do all the work myself. They do some of it as well, even when I don't ask.

We've gotta quit mirroring each other. I feel like I've been run over by a herd of elephants this morning.

I light the candle in my ancestor shrine in the mornings. When I remember. I don't reliably do anything in the mornings.

So long as you're reaching out, they'll always meet you halfway. If not three quarters.

Thank you for this, by the way. I was feeling run over myself this morning, so before I opened the door at work, I remembered your post, and took a moment to ground and center. It felt really good and helped, at least until my co-worker arrived hours later. *sigh*

Hey there,

I know I've been quietly lurking, but I was wondering if you could help. I was recently directed on my path by "the powers that be" that I need to consult with Ereshkigal and set up an altar to her.

Any suggestions on what she needs on her altar? Do you have past entries on this?

Thank you for ANY help you can give.

Hi --

Whenever I get a question about what a specific deity wants, my first suggestion is always to ask them directly. If you don't feel like you can get a connection, or you prefer to put in the effort of creating an altar before approaching, following your own intution is best. I'll suggest some things, but make sure you make an inward query and follow your soul or your gut or whatever inner guidance you seek to let you know if something is actually appropriate for you and a particular deity.

For Ereshkigal: black candle(s), myrrh incense, a sharp knife, lapis, dark stones, a dark mirror, red candle(s). Good food and drink. White roses.

Feel free to message me privately as well. . .

I received it, thanks.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond yet.
My work week tends to be very busy. I'll try to send an email later today.
