Please imagine that the above icon is upside down.

I made a spectacular belly flop last night in the form of two impulsive emails written to my teacher griping about a book she and her (equally wise and respected) husband had recommended to me.

When her responses came back later that evening I could barely read them, I was so embarrassed.

I'm blaming a combination of work fatigue, skewed expectations of the text, and a sudden resurfacing of my knee-jerk resistance to ceremonial magic.

I've asked for do-overs. . .

In happier news, I had a very vivid dream the other night which is confirming the importance of my upcoming rededication and adding some new elements. According to my teacher, it shows I'm making progress and ready to move to the next level.

Meanwhile, I'm going to be at the blackboard writing "I will not skim new texts and make snap judgments about them" a few hundred times. . . .

When I do that it's called nitwitchery. I'll have to think of a term for you.

If it makes you feel any better I've got that t-shirt in lots of colors. Used to be (okay, still is in large part) any time a book makes me mentally skitter-pift I shove it away and don't go any deeper into it.

Also, there are a lot worse fuck-ups you could have made.

Trust me...

I can sympathize. I once complained to my instructor about an assignment for a Goddess school course I was taking. The response I got to "Can I skip this one because blah blah blah?" just about took my skin off.

I also once wrote an LJ post on a book I'd just finished reading. While I basically liked it and said so, I did have a few rather sharp criticisms of it, which I decided to edit and soften a bit just before posting it. I was VERY grateful I had done so when the author posted a reply...
