a lot of what's recently written about those implies that Persephone is somehow released or has escaped. While I am sure she's happy to see above ground and her mom, I'm sure she'll miss her husband as well.
Persephone Unveiled is an amazing book.
Also there is no Greek text we know of that *ever* has anyine (regardless of season) go to see Persephone Underground to find a sign on her office door saying "Please visit our above ground offices."
She is always there.

I like the thought that she is always "in" when someone seeks her there. It suggests to me that -- despite the undoubtedly important seasonal aspects to her primary story -- she has a strong degree of personal volition.

I'm familiar with the Girls Underground site. The owner is actually a friend on this journal. :-)

I'm sure I've mentioned to you that both Hadrian and Antinous were initiates into those mysteries (which is why Persephone is in that particular liturgical drama we'll be doing)--and Hadrian was not just a one-time initiate, he was an Epoptes. And, he also founded parallel mysteries of Ceres in a number of towns and cities around the Empire...He was a fan! ;)

Kerenyi's book is very good...and that particular text that involves Herakles talking about what the mysteries might have contained, etc.?--It's translated in TPH (the Tebtynis Papyrus), and has parallels in Antinoopolis...LOTS to say about all of that!

You may have mentioned the connection to the Mysteries, but I don't remember.

Maybe we can discuss this over a cup of something once Foundation Day is accomplished?

Ahh, just reading about those in The Golden Bough. Just finished his chapter on Demeter and Persephone. The book is here if you're interested:

Chapter 44

I found a copy in a secondhand bookshop about a year ago, and have kept it in the bathroom. It is quite a tome, so I read it as and when I have to spend any length of time in there. *grin* I'm around halfway through it now. Don't know if what he writes will help or hinder you.
Hugs
