I had expected to be home at the usual time last night, and have a few hours to hang out and relax while The Child visited my parents. But Miss Vicki had a minor crisis that I was trying to help out with, which involved getting info from Jeannie before a deadline. But Jeannie was supposed to be in a meeting until after the time Miss V had to leave with her carpool. So I volunteered to stick around 90 minutes past my own departure time to help work things out. Then it turned out that the info Vicki needed somehow appeared. It is entirely likely that the other person involved got with the program and entered it into the online tool; she is not the kind of person to miss data like that. But by the end of the afternoon, I ended up simply staying on the work side of the high commute time, went to Borders (and bought Sean Astin's There and Back Again: An Actor's Journey, as well as The Hedonist's Handbook (not that I need particular help in that area!), and then let Mom take The Child and me out to dinner. When we got home, The Child took a bath, I downloaded a lot of LOTR quotes, and amused myself by creating an iPod playlist combining the quotes and soundtrack music. (This took much longer than her bath, and continued after her bedtime, which - by that time - was also my own bedtime.)

So my new desk is not assembled, my house has not been cleaned, I am behind on LJ, and I went to bed far too late.

But it was not a bad day for all that. Just a bit too long, and not productive in quite the ways I had planned. I am really looking forward to the weekend!

The Hedonism Handbook: Mastering the Lost Arts of Leisure and Pleasure is the title, and it claims that it will help people "rediscover the upside of the seven deadly sins." (Not that some of us need the help!)

It's an amusing mixture of "take a good long look at the treadmill quality of most lives today" on the one hand and tongue-in-cheek humor on the other. For example, in the section on getting enough rest and making one's bed a comfortable place, there is a list of ways to make sleeping an art form. One item is "Choose quality bedding and have a variety of blankets to suit your mood." Immediately following this is "Choose quality lovers and keep a variety on hand to suit your mood."

I think I'd like to borrow that one when you're done with it!
