Is there a god/dess of sacred strangers?

Their power has been so vivid in my life in recent weeks. Each time I turn around some stranger -- an acquaintance, actually, someone 'known' but not a regular part of my life -- has been there to companion me.

There is much to be said for old friends: people who know you through and through, the tried and trustworthy, the secret keepers, faithful and reliable.

But in this past month I'm finding it's the strangers who are blessing me, walking with me into new places with no preconceptions of who I am, only a glimmering sense of who I am becoming. They have no stake in my past, nothing to lose if I grow and change and evolve.

I blossom and soar, supported by the undefined possibilities they see in me.

(And I love and cherish my old friends who continue to cherish me as I change.)

The big one that popped into my head is Hermes, and secondarily Dionysos. But Hermes is pretty stranger-y. I actually had an incident today where I thought there was someone behind me and I instantly thought of Hermes, and was in the middle of doing work, and ended up what I think was getting a message.

But yeah. I think Hermes is pretty up there with strangers. You can find more info on him at Hermes on Wild Divine.

Good luck! :)

Odin was the very first thought that cropped into my mind as well, also followed closely by Hermes.

Well, the first one I thought of is my Old Man, who talked a lot about strangers, and worked through a few of them.

What a gift to receive that kind of repeated hospitality!

This makes me think of something Orion Foxwood said, about how our "stakeholders" (friends/family/community) can hold onto our old shape as we change, in an unhelpful way, so it makes total sense to me that in a time of great change, folks who aren't invested in the old you could end up being a big comfort/support. Not that everyone else won't catch up (hopefully they all will!), but in the transition time, it's good to have additional support options.

Thanks for the Orion reference. I must have missed that one.
