Morning Practice
Jul. 9th, 2008 07:10 amIt seems clear that Herself had more than one thing in mind when She told me that my morning practice was not to be something where I used the same words and images every day. It's far too easy to fall into an attitude of "need to get this done" and simply go through the motions.
I started to fall into that trap today (day 3? day 4?) and immediately realized that saying the words in my mind did not equate to reaching down and authentically connecting with Her energy. Ditto LM -- who connected with me in a very intense way once I'd aligned myself properly. (I didn't intend that to come out sounding quite so much like a euphemism. . . but that meaning is there too. . .)
Of course: making each experience vital and charged should be the case with my evening practice as well -- but it's so much easier to fall into the pattern of repetition without fully connecting when I'm doing the same words and the same actions time after time.
There's a balance to both: the power of repetition with the danger of over-familiarity, as well as the constant freshness of having to be new and creative each time which may make it harder to go deeper. Having both types of practice will help me appreciate each more, and may help to deepen my approach to both.
