List of Practices
Sep. 29th, 2007 05:54 pmOne of my ongoing challenges -- not just in my spiritual life, but everywhere -- is my tendency to be an all-or-nothing personality. If I can't do it all, and do it absolutely right, I'm not going to bother. The problem is, there are plenty of areas of life, especially the spiritual life, in which it is far better to do what one can, as well as possible, rather than do nothing at all.
So to help myself never be in a position of feeling like "I can't do something significant, so I'm not going to bother" I've made a list of Things To Do in the context of my practice that can help ensure that I do at least one thing, mindfully, to nurture my spiritual practice and my relationship with my deities and allies.
* Refresh the bowl of water on my altar, praying that any being of goodwill who drinks from it may be refreshed and restored
* Light one or more candles in honor of one or more deities
* Perform the Grail Mass -- whether a full, formal rite, or a simple blessing and partaking of bread and drink
* Pray to be made a chalice and channel for blessings and healing to come into the world
* Smudge one or more rooms, smudge myself
* Write a prayer or poem in honor of a deity. Share it if appropriate.
* Read prayers
* Write an encounter with a deity or ally instead of doing an inner journey
* Light the house spirit candle and make an offering. Spend time with him in meditation.
* Work on creating my sacred calendar, with my daughter's help
* Draw a rune or tarot card and meditate on it
* Sit with one of my tools, cleanse it, meditate
* Meditate on the sacred aspects of one of my roles: mother, warrior, seer, lover, sovereign, priestess
* Clean house from a place of spirit
