Distraction
Aug. 29th, 2007 05:59 amI haven't been able to attempt the gate for a week now. It's not that I don't think about it or don't want to do it (although I've been processing some intense frustration about my work life and intense grief over LM recently), it's that by the time I'm ready to settle down in the evening, there are people in the swimming pool making enough noise to be distracting.
However, two nights ago I discovered that contrary to recent protests about not liking white noise devices, having the fan on in my bathroom helped block said pool noise without being even more irritating. So I need to experiment with that.
I've tried using music as a background, but I don't have anything that doesn't feel intrusive.

Date: 2007-08-29 09:24 pm (UTC)But about four years ago, I was in a noisy apartment complex, and I invested in a $100 radio/white noise machine from Sharper Image. It has about 30 different ambient sounds, including city noise, various kinds of watery sounds, forests wet and dry, train rumbling, and a heartbeat. I still use it every night for sleeping, and sometimes for meditating.

Thanks for the reminder!
