She's cursed because she's enjoying it --- which means she'll suffer social ostracism and go to hell, according to the standards of the time.

Never mind that social ostracism could be a lovely thing in that era!

Oh I understand why she was "cursed" -- I just love how many people have been laughing and delighted in response to it now. It's mostly been women responding, but one guy on my Facebook page wrote "The demon eating his way to her heart. . . How do I get that job?"

*snorf* Yeah --- that's a good response. I've been laughing about the extent to which the "proper" Victorian women who saw that painting on exhibit probably ran straight home and seduced their husbands.
