qos: (Tiger in Snow)

We have about five inches of snow on the ground in my neighbhorhood in Seattle. We have so many microclimates here that weather can be very different in different neighborhoods.)

I had intended to bring my work laptop home with me on Friday, but was in such a hurry to get out of the office I completely forgot. And now I'm paying for it because I haven't been able to use a secure token (some kind of IT magic sigil) to even log into our webmail. So I'm not stressing, and I'm sitting here in my dining room/office watching the snow billow off the trees and roofs. It's quite beautiful.

For those not familiar with Seattle snow days -- we don't get more than an inch of snow very often, so we as a city and as commuters do not do at all well when we get snow in amounts considered "normal winter weather" in other regions. Everything grinds to a halt. Schools are closed today, people have been asked to stay off the roads unless they must get somewhere, and most people who can work from home will be. People laugh at us for being so helpless, but as is the case with so many things driving in snow is simply not a skill most of us have had the opportunity or need to develop.

FoxGirl has been here with me the last couple of days, and is currently asleep in my bed. She's largely nocturnal, especially when she's been sick. She sleeps in the living room, and when I get up and start rattling around to get ready for work -- or just get up, because I've always been an early-to-bed, early-to-rise person -- she goes into the bedroom.

IT escalated my help ticket, but it may be a few hours before they call me back. I'm going to do my morning spiritual practices -- which always get thrown off when the Daughter stays with me -- and just enjoy another quiet day.

I ought to check in with Falcon. He's in Bothell, and has been missing 'real winter' weather. I am just now realizing you live in Seattle. Or re-realizing it. It would be cool if FoxGirl and Falcon met. He enjoys the friendship of other folks who are non-conforming to society's expectations.

Falcon does drive, and now has a reliable vehicle. He has friends in Seattle, a rather colorful and queer bunch. Right now, he's working full/over time learning to be an auto mechanic. He's taking the train home (to Mpls) in a few weeks to visit us. He's a rather delightful nerdy, kind fella. Turning 25 this month. He plays on line games with his brothers (who live with me). He's a social introvert - he likes his friends, but it wears him out to socialize. I think they hang out and do things like avocado facials and just get silly. He lives with his grandpa's widow, and helps with the 5 cats, bull mastiff dogs (there are 2 now, were 3), and miniature horse in exchange for reduced rent. He might enjoy LARPing, he's not such a fan of tabletop.

Falcon called a little while ago, and I mentioned this conversation. He said "Mom, I like to play D&D". Oh, I didn't know. He has a new 'significant person' with whom he spends most of his social energy lately.
