New Venture

My intention is to become active in one or two organizations that are working to reverse climate change, which is an issue that has really started to scare me. There are a lot of other issues I care about, but the way I see it, unless this is addressed everything else becomes moot. I'm in the process of researching orgs to find out which ones I want to join, and then I'm going to invite my family (especially my dad and Wolfling) to join as well.

The shifts that led up to this were very much grounded in my spiritual practices, and I may write about it later, but I'm on my lunch break at work and don't have time to go into the details now.

In the meantime, CC, an also-laid-off former colleague from FormerMyCo sent me a message yesterday asking if I'd be interested in being the project manager for a fund raiser for a fledgling non-profit run by the wife of our former boss, who is also the mother of one of my two project colleagues at TempCo. I hesitated at first, feeling a bit unsure of my skills and the time commitment, but then I realized that I'd also just been thinking about wanting to move into a project management position here at ResearchOrg. Given my desire to become an activist and a project manager, this invitation pretty much constituted an engraved invitation from the universe (something noticably lacking in my spiritual direction efforts, I might add). So I talked to CC this morning during my break and told her I'd do it.

It's been so long since I stretched outside my comfort zone in my personal life. And it's been even longer since I did anything to be of service to anyone other than myself and my immediate circle. I'm long overdue for something like this.

That's a big part of what the Common Good community organization that Allen and I are a part of does. We urge local, healthy, organic eating for the good of the planet as well as for the financial and physical benefit of the consumer. We recycle damn near everything, and our kitchen scraps get carted off for compost. We've just started a series of bi-weekly presentations focused on sustainable living. I'm really excited about many of the changes that are happening on a local level! What's more, in the summer we serve the tourists, who take these ideas home with them, so our core concepts are reaching all over the world!
