On Mondays I have two hours from the time I get off work to the time my evening class starts. This evening, I grabbed some food and settled down to finish Promethea.

Trouble is, I can't finish it because the story arc isn't completed in Volume 1 of the collected issues. Which means placing an order on Amazon this evening and then waiting a few days for it to arrive. Now, I'm not usually someone who demands instant gratification, but I do get a bit riled when a story unexpectedly becomes a cliff-hanger, when I was expecting a resolution by the time I reach the back cover.

You might have warned me, Christine!! ;-)

oh, i think "cliffhanger" is a bit strong. but yes, volume 1 does end in the middle of a story arc.

but i wouldn't have thought of it, because i read promethea issue by issue. i don't have an incredibly clear idea of what's in which book. ;>

the TPBs are unfortunately just arranged in groups of six (i think). that means vol. 2 ends somewhere reasonable, if i recall correctly, but vol. 1 and vol. 3 don't. when lending, i try to give out vols. 1 & 2 together to get around that problem.

Thanks for the heads-up on volume 3!

I ordered volumes 2 & 3 last night. Looks like I'm going to need to find a local source for the monthly(?) book.

It's really a great story. I love the idea of her training taking place through the context of the suites of the tarot.

She did the exact same thing to me--actually *bought me the first volume*, and then I was hooked. I ordered vv. 2 & 3 at once and have read 1 & 2 twice now. Christine's a pusher!

vol. 4 is out in HC, so the TPB shouldn't be -too- long...

but the issues don't come out regularly. you can see when each one is scheduled by poking around dccomics.com -- it's a wildstorm title, technically. the series is getting close to the end (the last will be #32), and so they're coming out veeeery slowly.

your local comic shop might be able to hook you up with back issues, though, if you're really desperate. then you can at least catch up to the current one.

I haven't bought comics regularly in quite some time, but my long-time impression is that most titles come out veeery slowly, with actual publication dates having little to do with the actual date on the covers.
