What was my immediate, knee-jerk reaction?

I've had "special." Nothing could ever be special again.

That's no way to live a life.
It's not the way I want to live my life.

Absolutely! You may not have what you once had, but that doesn't mean you can't have something wonderful, just something different.

Not that this is directly comparable to your situation, but I too had to come to that realization. In my last relationship, at the beginning it was really amazing and we had these intense spiritual experiences together of a certain type. After awhile, the relationship went seriously downhill and eventually exploded, and I'm certainly glad to not be in it anymore, but I still yearned for those experiences we had together, and was convinced that somehow they depended on him, and I would never have that type of thing again. Well, no, I won't. But once I got over that assumption and let in the possibility of something new, I ended up discovering a similar but slightly different sort of spiritual adventure I could have, all by myself, and now my life is full of those again.

*hugs* You're a very special person. And by the simple rule of like attracting like, you're bound to draw more special experiences/things into your life. Nothing will ever be the same as what you had (after all, that's what makes it "special"), but there are so many different kinds of special out there.

I've been wanting to say that the world is all about mortal choice which we hopefully are making inspired by the divine in our center. The good thing is that time goes by so quickly and we can choose to start anew.

I don't know if I believe in having only one true soul mate. I do however believe in kindred spirit, and it is painful for me to contemplate that I could not choose any form of communion I wished with any of those kin. But then, my kindred would never expect that I should suffer in this way, so it may be a circular argument. However, surely there will be many beautiful things that surround and encompass you in what remains of this incarnation. My advice is to embrace the love and thereby have more to share at your joyful reunion.
