Today I went out to buy the new shoes I wrote about needing in my last (Friends only) post.
But I didn't buy shoes. I bought boots! They are low, extending just two or three inches above my ankle, and they're sleek. The heel is wide across my foot, and about three-quarters of an inch from front to back, so I'm neither teetering on a stiletto nor clunking.
I could have gotten pumps or dress sandals, but I really, really wanted boots. I wanted to feel powerful and kick-ass, not demure. Traditional women's dress shoes do not feel empowering to me.
My boots are going to take a while to get used to, however. I've been living in sandals and tennis shoes for years. Having my entire foot and lower calf encased in leather is an unfamiliar sensation. Then there is the matter of the two-inch heels -- not extreme by any means, but a heck of a lot more than I'm used to. The saleswoman assured me that because they are leather they will give some -- but I suspect that I too will have to "give" for this relationship to work.
But I'm delighted. I do feel kick-ass wearing them.

I have an appointment this afternoon that will keep me out until at least 5pm Pacific Time. After that, I could certainly do one for you.
You have my personal email, right? The Earthlink one? Drop me a line with your phone number and a good time for you, and I'll call you.
