Back in December, I had the pleasure of dining with [livejournal.com profile] jaynefury and [livejournal.com profile] thomryng, and [livejournal.com profile] jaynefury shared with me the wonders of the modern pressure cooker.

Yesterday I finally ordered one from Amazon. It should be here on Wednesday.

To fully understand what a big step this is, you have to realize that the only other kitchen appliance I've ever purchased is a blender, which I picked up late last spring to get my fitness drinks fully mixed.

I can't remember when I got my mixer. My microwave was a gift when I graduated from college in 1988.

One of my big challenges as a homemaker, in my personal health, and my desire to nurture my daughter, is that when I get home from work I'm tired and hungry, and taking the time and effort to cook sometimes feels overwhelming. I'm hoping that the pressure cooker can help me get a real, healthy dinner on the table more consistently.

Ooo, a pressure cooker, I hear those are fabulous. Let me know what you think. And yay for buying a self-care thing!

Well, "a family-care thing" would also be accurate!

Congratulations! I own two pressure cookers and I use one or both daily. After my bicycle and my chef's knife, my smaller pressure cooker is probably my third favorite object. If you want to get a great book that will really get you going with the pressure cooker, get anything by Lorna Sass. All of her books give you great instructions, some decent recipes. She really teaches you how to use it.

Along with the cooker, I ordered "Pressure Perfect" by Sass. She seemed to be the highest-rated author on Amazon on this subject.
