Date: 2006-01-20 01:35 pm (UTC)Trying to put my finger on what about cataloging attracts me so deeply, I think it's finding all the ways one object connects to another. It's not just the distinct book that's important, it's finding all the places it might share a quality with another. My 'subject' lines can get very lengthy.
I think too that some part of my brain believes that cataloging leads to deeper understanding: of 'handling' an object (or topic, or whatever) and finding what makes it distinct, and what it has in common with other similar things, especially in non-obvious ways.
