My name's Bob. I thought I'd introduce myself, so you wouldn't be wondering what this strange name was doing on your "Friend of" list. I was doing various searches over on Bloglines.com (http://www.bloglines.com), and your journal came up when I was looking for references to author Sylvia Louise Engdahl and her book, Enchantress from the Stars. I'm a children's author myself, and I count Enchantress among my biggest inspirations - but alas, it's still relatively obscure. Since you mentioned it as well, I thought your journal was worth checking out.

So that's my story. :-)

Greetings, Bob!

What a pleasure to meet another Engdahl fan! I first read Enchantress in the sixth grade (circa 1976). It was my first science fiction novel, and it had a powerful influence on me. I assume you have also read The Far Side of Evil and her Children of the Star trilogy?

I too am a writer, and am trying to finish a historical 'fantasy' novel, rather in the flavor of Guy Gavriel Kay, who is one of my favorite authors.

No, not embarassed, just ... surprised, a little. And I did sincerely mean "thank you". I very much appreciate your opinion of me.

Oh yes, I've read them all. Enchantress is still my favorite, though. Supposedly there's a new version of Far Side. That's what Sylvia Engdahl's website says, anyway.

Good luck on your novel! My latest has been a tough one, but it's slowly creeping toward its finish.
